Dear President Letter?
To kick off The Election Project my class and I all chose an important topic in America today from racial injustice to gun policy. The topic I chose to write on was wage gap between races. We started by creating an outline for our paper and completely filling out all the sections important to writing a paper: thesis, hook, conclusion, etc. When the outline was complete we started on the first draft of the actual letter to our future president. After getting critiques from my peers we then went on the start draft number 2 where we went through the same critique process as before. We then went on to complete our 3rd and final draft which needed to be no more than 500 words. When ready, we entered our Dear President Letters into the PBS 50 for 50 contest where the winner got to go to the presidential debate in Las Vegas, Nevada and got a chance to meet the candidates. Although I did not win here are the letters that I wrote.

What did I take away from this portion of the project?
This project really opened my eyes to the problems we have in America today. When researching about my specific topic, I could not believe how much other information I found about college education and poverty among race. After finishing this project, it is safe to say that there are problems in America, and the only people that can do something about this is the people of the United States. Especially students my age will have a big impact on the future.
